Dear Art Educator,

Challenge your students over the holiday break by sending them home with a few creative projects that visually communicate their art perspective. They can create works from any or all of the project categories listed below. Send these imaginative works on to the YAM Chair, so they can become part of a greater public celebration in the coming months~ March is Youth Art Month. These are excellent ways for students to express the meaningfulness of art in their lives.

Design a banner- Oregon's 'Artland
  • Create a work of art to fit within the boundaries of your county.
  • The theme could relate to your community, the landscape, the people, or an expression of yourself as you are part of this community/place.
  • The selected work will become part of a collection of artworks in the shape of the respective county.
  • Deadline for this project is January 25, 2013. Email me by Dec. 20 and I will send you the county template in which you live. Or you can download the generic YAM Banner template found on our website.
  • Participation prizes to be awarded to the artists whose designs are selected.

Art on You-  Your body becomes the canvas upon which you create the art.
  • Using face paint or skin friendly crayons/markers, design an original work on your face, arm, leg, or hand.
  • Your body art can stand-alone or be integrated into a greater/larger piece - other students, media, etc.
  • Be inspired by an artist, an art style or a personal idea or expression.
  • Make a statement and document your art in a public place.
  • Send photos to YAM chair. Deadline for this Art-scene is March 5, 2013

Whole Latta Art  - BUILD YOUR ART MONUMENT all month long

  • Design a paper cup or coffee jacket. Develop a theme or conjure up an expressive concept and duplicate it.
  • Create a sculptural wall of stacked cups. Each cup is creatively inspired by individuals, group ideas, or famous artworks. A great way to give new life to a used cup by "recycling" it.
  • Templates available on our webpage or grab one next time you visit your neighborhood coffee shop. You can also request that a sleeve of cups be sent to you
  • Make a statement and document your art in a public place.
  • Send photos to YAM chair. Deadline for this Art-scene is March 25, 2013
Note: We are currently pursuing the prospect of printing of select/chosen designs so send your designs to the YAM chair via email. Deadline for jacket design, if it is to be considered for mass printing, is January 15, 2013.

Send photo(s) to the YAM Chairperson via email, or regular mail-Luce <luceoaea@gmail.com>

Feel free to copy, print and post these projects for any and all students to participate.

Luce, the YAM Chair
