King
School in Portland has been selected for participation in the
Turnaround Arts initiative, a new public-private partnership designed to
help narrow the achievement gap and increase student engagement through
the arts. The two-year initiative, announced by a White House panel,
will enlist celebrities, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma and actress Sarah
Jessica Parker, in efforts to improve school culture and academic
achievement across the curriculum through high-quality, integrated arts
instruction. Learn more about the initiative at http://turnaroundarts.pcah. gov/; read an Education Week blog about the initiative at http://blogs.edweek.org/ edweek/curriculum/2012/04/ turnaround_arts_initiative. html.
